The famous horror writer Stephen King is no stranger to a productive routine. He is will known for having a strict morning routine as well as obscure eating habits. King wakes up and starts working between 8:00 to 8:30 a.m in the same seat, desk, and location. The papers on his desk are set in a specific arrangement that stays the same way each day. By doing so, he believes this de-clutters his mind and paves the way for a successful work day. Prior to working King is known to consume water or tea, as well as a piece of cheesecake before writing. A cheesecake per day keeps the doctor away. (That’s what they say, right?) Beyond his pregame writer habits, King sets daily goals for himself each day. King writes 10 pages per day, 365 days a year. (yes, even holidays) Known for his profound dislike for adverts, King also seeks to write 2,000 adverb-free words each day. King’s approach relies on steadfast routine as well as a slow and steady approach to writer’s success.
Barack Obama kicks off each day with exercise promptly at 6:45 a.m. After exercising he takes the time to sit down and read several newspapers and then has breakfast with his family. Obama’s work hours often last as late as 10:00 most evenings, but he always makes it a point to sit down and have dinner with his family. Known for his night oil tendencies, Obama finds himself often working past 2 a.m. many evenings. Many have said that this is the only time he can find to truly unwind and find solace in quiet.

Within his company and to his customers, Sir Richard Branson makes himself available to his customers. He puts himself where his customers are by experiencing everything as they would. He is acknowledged as both a leader and a motivator. He is constantly making an effort to meet new people and interested in finding new ideas.
Benjamin Franklin was known as an extremely hard worker who worked long works. He had an unparalleled work ethic which at the time was essential for his thriving printing business. Benjamin Franklin was his own best critic. He would evaluate himself each day by asking the question “What good have I done today?”
Demosthenes would take extreme actions to force himself to stay motivated. These extreme habits often would yield penalizing end results if he did not compose his orations. Demosthenes would commit comical tasks such as convincing the valet to hide his clothes until he finished. Other measures would include shaving off half of his hair so that he would not be tempted to leave his home.
As you probably already know Mark Zuckerberg was known to be somewhat of a minimalist when it came to his trendy clothing line. Zuckerberg’s sports the everyday wear of open-toed Adidas sandals, jeans, and casual grey shirts and sweaters. Sounds odd, but it makes sense when you think about it. Most of us are always looking for one less thing to do each day. Zuckerberg says “I feel like I’m not doing my job if I spend any of my energy on things that are silly or frivolous about my life so, that way, I can dedicate all of my energy towards building the best products and services.”
It’s typical for the population to see famous historic figures, successful business people as those who sneeze gold each day. The reality simply isn’t so. Many of these people that we see and associate ourselves have experienced severe hardships financially. Known for his timeless animations, television products and founder of the happiest place on earth, Walt Disney went bankrupt several times. After several failed ventures his past experiences eventually helped him to succeed and make Disney a success.
“If you’re honest, you should know the questions that should be asked, as well as the answers. That’s probably why there’s so much confusion out there today.” – Donald Trump. Whether you’re a fan of his or not, Trump is known for his highly successful real estate business that has experienced its ups and downs. Trump believes that pure honesty with yourself and others will give you the questions and answers you need to be candid with yourself.
Possibly one of the most unusual morning routines that I have come across, Winston Churchill would wake up around every day at 7:30 and spend most of his morning in bed. He had breakfast in bed, read his mail and newspapers, and constructed tasks for his administration. Sticking to his daily routine for years, the prime minister was probably one of the busiest men you could have met. Apparently this routine worked, as he was known for accomplishing all his tasks.
Known as a master of habits, Leo Babauta experimented with the morning routine. After several iterations, he found a routine that worked for him. Wake at 4:30 a.m. Drink water. Set the three most important things for the day. (He calls them MIT’s). Prepare lunches for his children. Eat breakfast, read. Exercise by running, biking, swimming, strength training, yard work, or meditation. Shower. Wake wife and children at 6:30 a.m. Phew, I got tired just reading all that.
Founder of high-profile companies such as Blogger, Twitter, and Medium.com, Williams takes a break in the middle of the day from work to visit the gym or perform leisure activities. Evan found that his visit to the gym during the afternoon instead of morning better benefitted his energy levels. That being said, If you work a 9-5 job experimenting this with might be a little bit tougher.
If you haven’t already figured this out for yourself, the motivational habits of 10 famous people will not necessarily work for you.
As much as you’re going to hate me for saying this to you–there is no one size fits all. We all operate uniquely and do things that work for us. We are all able to motivate ourselves in unique ways. We can determine these qualities by listening to our minds, body, and instinct. Systemically we need to figure out what those key elements are. Perception and learning about yourself is important. The motivational habits of 10 famous people may have some routines in common, and identifiying those items are important. There are some habits that everyone should possess, but ultimately you need to figure out what works best for you.
